Timescale - GANTT chart

To complete my graded unit I am going to show my updated GANTT chart as a reference against my old one to show how good/bad my time management is.
This is the new updated GANTT chart upon completion of the portfolio and hopefully the correct amount of time needed for my evaluation.

Management 1 - Porfolio

Finally, I oringinally started out with a business letter as I didn't know at the time what to do but now I have. I have change it to show what type of leader/manager I would be. This helps me alot when running a gig/promotions company. We done the Bolman and Deal's Framework Approach to Leadership questionnaire and I am deciding to use it for my portfolio. I felt this helped me when running to a small timescale and if we had been taught the course more earlier, but I have worked with my lecturer and he suggested this. His opinion helped sway my final decision.

Finance - Portfolio

So today I have decided that a financial budget for a gig doesn't seem enough to show my knowledge of the finance module so I am going to do both a financial budget and also a profit and loss account for a gig.
Firstly I have completed the profit/loss account for a gig with ticket sales of £6 per ticket, at a 150 capacity. Here is the print screen of the budget with a re-written sample of a Trial Balance we received in class below;

An extract from the Trial Balance of DottKomm Promotions on 31st May 2012,

                                              Dr                        Cr
Sales                                                                 600(100)
Stock at 1st June 2012         17(50)
Purchases                             20(60)
Wages                                   30
Rent                                      120

Notes:
1, Tickets at 31st December was valued at 30(90)
2, Provision should be made for a dividend of £50
3, No provision should be made on Corporation Tax

* The number1(number2) -number1-value of tickets
                                           -number2-no of tickets *

To achieve this I need to update my GANTT chart once more, just to include the new portfolio piece instead of delaying timescale on it.

Finally I had to add to my porftfolio the financial budget, this didnt take me that long which was a bonus this will show the amount of tickets to break-even or make a profit.

Marketing 1 - Portfolio

A few days ago I completed my marketing strategy which is included below, this will enable me to finish my graded unit portfolio on the new projected time. This was an assessment for this class which I have looked at it and thought it would be beneficial to my graded unit.

Current Situation

Strengths

•Low overheads

•Starting genre (Rock) for target audience

•Enthusiastic

•Area venue knowledge

Weaknesses

•Lack of money

•Lack of staff

•Inexperienced

•Band roster to promote

Opportunities

•Networking

•Expand genres

•Hiring more staff

•Enter into new territories

Threats

•Competition

•Recession

•Not enough recognition

•Age restrictions (14+ or 18+ gigs)

Marketing Strategy: In relation to the 4 P’s

Product

A music event (gig), which is to be arranged, promoted and presented by DottKomm Promotions to help music fans watch great bands.

Place

A music orientated venue. Where this is located depends on the projected ticket sales, venue, capacity and the event genre.

Price

This is calculated by heavily considering the costs (kind of genre, projected estimate of ticket sales, size of venue and cost of venue). A major factor is calculating the break-even point as it’s not worth running an event with a projected loss to begin with and also what the consumer can afford.

Promotion

Online – Facebook and Twitter (event pages, band and band member pages, promoter pages and employees of promoter’s personal pages), Tickets Scotland and Venue websites. Also any other sites which will give exposure to the gig.

Posters – pubs/clubs, venues, shops and heavy populated areas around the territory (Glasgow).

Radio – Student radio stations around Glasgow and progress up the radio hierarchy with all bands giving interviews to raise gigs profile

Market Segmentation

What is DottKomm Promotions target audience?

Well DottKomm Promotions will cover all genres’ audiences as we are aiming to attract music listeners ages start from 14 year olds. To utilise each event, we will look at what is the most popular genres to put on each day. Also we will cater for any unknown local band looking into creating a fan-base by lining them up with same styled bands. All media coverage would be very welcome as this increases our profile more.

Review Period

Within the first year we hope to make a profit on most gigs and this profit should be slightly increasing, with the possibility of planning 1 or 2 events which is bigger in capacity than our average sized venues. Depending on how successful DottKomm Promotions are we might expand to neighbouring towns to help us find new up-and-coming talent e.g. Paisley to build up a reputation that will bring new crowds and with the possibility of existing bands being promoted into the biggest events that we organise in Glasgow. In regards to the artists whom perform at our events, the company will continue to work with unsigned non-touring/touring artists but with the possibility into looking at starting a recording company off of the success of the promotions company which could enhance networking opportunities and gain new clients (either artists wanting gigs to view to be signed or just to play a great event). Also this would enhance our relationship with existing bands that perform these events as we would sign them and they would get same professionalism shown when we hired them to perform one of our gigs. Shortly after the first year we intend to host a mini festival to enhance reputation of the company, to showcase the labels talent, potential signings to the label, new fresh bands/artists and foreign breakthrough artists.

Final Summary

To summarise the strategy above, we are an adventurous promotions company called DottKomm Promotions which aim to please all genres, but will start using the rock genre as a tester to see if this company can compete with other promotion companies. If so then we will expand quickly so that there are at least two gigs per calendar month, which in theory should make some profit. After six to eight months then we will consider expanding territories and start planning to form a record label which will sign bands that have a good relationship previously through promoting them via events. Hopefully this transaction period can create more events using the income generated by record sales. To mark a year’s worth of work we should be ready to become a major promotions company in Glasgow and follow in DF Concerts by hosting a mini festival to showcase our artists/bands signed to the label and potential artists/bands that need a breakthrough into the Glasgow scene. In conclusion DottKomm Promotions company will swiftly expand based on success of the events circuit and go into recording, therefore helping artists/bands achieve success earned though gigging with us.

Creative Industries - Portfolio

All though I already knew about some networking events websites and forums where musicians and promoters can potentially work together, so yesterday I had a look at those websites to see what knowledge I could gain in regards to running my own gigs. I found one of the panelists Detlef Schwarte at goNorth would benefit my knowledge of running a gig.

Also for me to find venues that are looking for promoters to run gigs in the Glasgow area on their free times I would go through this forum as there are some info on all needs necessary.

Overall it took me a reasonably short amount of time, this indicated to me that it wasn't as hard to locate and choose what pieces which showed my knowledge in networking.

Promotions/Working In The Creative Industries - Portfolio

Yeah so I have just created a Facebook page which shows my knowledge of the importance of online promotion, this was done in a short time period meaning that I can focus on other portfolio pieces
The link to this page is http://www.facebook.com/pages/DottKomm-Promotions/397621800252556 also I have incorporated the logo design to this page from which I am using as the company logo which is to front a business card. This demonstrates the link between Promotions and Working In The Creative Industries when building the foundations of a promotions company and when organising an event. To create this logo, firstly I looked for an image of a amplifier. Then used Adobe Fireworks to have a mirror effect on the image also a background colour and add text into that image. I would of found this difficult if I didn't study logo design in Computing Studies/Information Systems in high school. The final image was then saved and put onto the page as a trial to see how it looked which in my opinion was the best to operate this experiment as it gives me feedback from peers, this enabled me to adjust it so that it was commercially liked.
After many alterations the final logo was this....

Now this has been completed my projected timescale for my graded unit has been altered aswell, therefore my intended GANTT chart wasn't much use so I am in the process of re-writing one up and I will show the changes.

Music Law 1 - Portfolio

I have collected over the past couple of days one of my portfolio pieces in regards to Music Law 1. This is a PRS form, which is used to license songs performed by musicians. In my opinion, this was easy to retrieve as all I had to do was find a template PRS form on my computer and print it off using my printer. The resources used were ink, paper, internet and a computer.
After some deliberation with one of my classmates I found out that I would need some sort of contract aswell to meet the requirements ... so they suggested to me that a confimation letter to an act will cover that requirement so I will be adding another portfolio piece to cover that. This means my GANTT chart will need to be updated, therefore I will need to take longer than expected on this part of the portfolio which means I will be rushing to complete this section on time.
