Graded
Unit 1 – Live Promoter - Planning Stage
Brief
For my graded unit I
have decided to choose the Live
Promoter part of the music industry as this uses the best part of my
HNC Music Business knowledge. I think this is the best way to showcase my abilities
as I can use a varied amount of vital information about this industry that I’ve
been taught so far, as this will help me progress in promoting/hosting a gig. To
show my understanding, I will use the seven core modules which are Music Law 1, Music Industry Promotions, Music
Industry Marketing 1, Music Industry Finance & ICT, and Creative Industries
Infrastructure, Working in the Creative Industries and Music Industry
Management 1 in regards to what it takes to successfully run a gig.
Aims
To show my knowledge of HNC Music Business I will
use the seven core modules and show portfolio pieces as evidence. These core
modules are Music Law 1, Music Industry
Promotions, Music Industry Marketing 1, Music Industry Finance & ICT,
Creative Industries Infrastructure, Working in the Creative Industries and
Music Industry Management 1. My portfolio piece from Music Law 1 that provides my knowledge
of this specific part of this industry is to use a PRS form to show that I have
knowledge on copyright of live music. As for Music Industry Promotions, I will use websites/social media to
utilise my knowledge of promoting a gig. To showcase the knowledge I gained in Music Industry Marketing 1 I am going
to produce a marketing strategy for my portfolio which will help me find the
best way to move the company forward using analysis. For Music Industry Finance & ICT, I will produce a financial budget
to show my understanding of the financial side of a gig. To showcase my knowledge of the Creative Industries I will show a website
where networking helps promoters and artists meet with the possibility of
working with each other. As for Working
in the Creative Industries I am going to produce a logo design for a
business card which would show some professionalism when meeting potential
clients. To show my understanding of Music
Industry Management 1 I will provide a business letter to emphasise the
need of good management when organising an event.
Sources
The information required to achieve my portfolio
piece for Music Law 1 is that from
Ann Harrisons’ book called ‘Music - The Business: The Essential Guide to the
Law and the Deals’. Also I will use Outcome 3 of the module notes to emphasise
copyright laws which relates to my folio piece. The main source of my portfolio
piece will come from the Performing Right Society which is a form to copyright
the performance of all bands playing at the gig. The information needed for Music Industry Promotions will come from
the Internet, via web page creating software/websites. Also adding photographs
to the pages which would make the pages look more professional. The main source
will come from the social networking sites ‘Facebook’ and ‘Twitter’ and from Outcome’s
1,2 and 3 because I need to show how to promote a band/artist on the Internet
and all outcomes add focus to that. Music
Industry Marketing 1 the information I will use Outcome 3 of the module to
help me configure a marketing strategy. For Music
Industry Finance & ICT Outcome 2 provided the class with the notes using
a blog, to provide the financial budget that my portfolio needs. Also we
received worksheets that help the class with the development of a financial
budget. The information that I will use to help produce my Creative Industries folio piece is from notes about different trade
events and looking on their various websites. For the Working in the Creative Industries module, the information I will
use is notes from class. Also I will use software which will help make a 3
dimensional logo for my business card. Finally the information required to make
a business letter will come from class notes and examples from an Internet
source. In all of the portfolio pieces I would consult my lecturers if there
are any parts of my knowledge/notes which I’m not 100% sure on.
